About Us
Thomas J. Grisanti
Work Experience
I began woodworking as a child, with the influence of my father who owns the Redwood Lumber Company in the foothills of the Adirondack mountains. I moved to Charleston in 1998 and immediately started working downtown on historic renovations. A year later, in 1999, I started out on my own with small siding/trim jobs.
In 2001, I worked at the Cassique Clubhouse on Kiawah, and that’s when my focus shifted to interior woodwork specifically. For the next seven to eight years, I installed all of Michael Daly’s (Daly & Sawyer Construction) interior woodwork. Those homes are all located in the areas of Sullivan’s Island, I’On, and Isle of Palms. That experience really tuned my understanding of low-country woodwork.
Around 2006, we started working on our first house on Kiawah Island, where I have been since. It was also during that year that I established our own cabinet shop and have been rolling out custom cabinets for the last 17 years.
Milestones
I passed the SC Residential Building License test with PSI in 2007. I focused on custom woodwork—interior trim and cabinetry. I have grown my business over the years based solely on my reputation and word of mouth.
We have worked on projects such as The Galliard in downtown Charleston (80% of the custom interior woodwork there was installed by us) and the gorgeous River Course Clubhouse on Kiawah, where we did 100% of the woodwork. After a few commercial projects, we have turned our primary focus back to private homes.
What We Do
Typical projects for us are 10,000+ sq. ft. homes on Kiawah, where we do the entire project—custom stairs, cabinets, interior trim, and sometimes exterior trim. I feel extremely fortunate to have land in a town with such an opportunity for all our hard work to pay off.
Accomplishments and Future Plans
In 2016, I purchased a lot on Maybank Highway in South Carolina to build our own cabinet shop — a longtime goal that has been a great success.
Since then, Millsite Custom Homes, LLC has become firmly established in Kiawah River, where we’re proud to be building beautiful, high-quality homes that reflect our commitment to craftsmanship. Managing each project from start to finish allows us to deliver the same level of excellence that has always defined our work.
